MIRRORS🔍

All the pleasant things we experience in life,
are provided to us by the same source
as all the unpleasant things we experience...
By shifting this source
to any particular individual,
will always cause us suffering.
Whenever we hate anyone,
we hate not them, but only ourself.
Individuals are mediums
not the doer.
Individuals are appearances,
mirrors and fleeting shadows,
reflecting to us, parts of us,
but the source of light
behind all these shadows,
is only and only within our heart.
So, no matter how great the pain or anger,
the answer to it shall be discovered,
by going within.

SHINE⭐

The most selfish thing you can do,
is to abandon yourself.
If you aren’t available to your own inner self,
and instead looking to other people to be available to you.
It is like, that everyone has their own torch.
But you throw away your own torch and chase other people to share the light of their torches with you,
perhaps because you feel afraid of the light that emanates from your torch.
Thereupon, it is always, always a wise thing to look within your heart,
to not be scared of your inner darkness
and to discover the source of all strength.
It is only by loving and accepting your own darkness
is that you’ll be able to love and accept others too.
Without loving yourself, it is not only difficult,
but it is impossible to love anyone else.
Because there is no one else who exists except for you, for yourself.
Be brave.
Be wild.
Look within your heart.
Shine your light!

POETRY🌅

Poetry calls me to
take a journey,

Each poem
wants to take me
somewhere
but in the end
I find myself
reaching at the same place
for, each poem
stems from this place
of my heart
which people call by the name of love
and I like to call by the name of pain.
Sweet pain. Poetry.

EMOTIONS🎨

In the outer world, if a crocodile eats a goldfish, or if a tiger eats a deer, or if a leaf separates from the tree, or if a living organism dies,
it is sad.
But it is what is.
Life is full of heartbreaking appearances.
In the inner world too,
we all carry emotional energies which sometimes take the form of raging dinosaurs and sometimes like a sweet positive goldfish.
In the outer world,
we can’t control anyone’s destiny, their birth or death,
But here, in our inner world,
we do have an opportunity
to redirect these emotional energies
for knowing & understanding the nature of our mind.
By understanding the nature of our mind,
we shall be able to make efficient use of it
rather than being unconsciously driven by it!

SELF ACCEPTANCE 💠

Whenever you feel unaccepted, unlovable or unimportant by someone, anyone, for being who you are, as it is, then it is futile to either try to make them accept you or even to keep dwelling in anger at them for not being able to accept you. The best thing you can do herein, is to first accept yourself exactly the way you are right now and secondly, to forgive the one who couldn't accept you, probably because they didn't have the ability to accept that particular attribute in themselves too. They became a medium offering you suffering at first, however, once you learn the lesson, they can be viewed as a medium offering you the freedom from your own mind too!

Thank the universe and let them go!

3 Writing Lessons I Learned From Kamala Das & her Poetry | Neha's Notebo...

Kamala Surayya Das is widely known late Indian poetess and Malayali author, also known as the Mother of Modern English Indian Poetry. Famous for her open-bold expression and confessional autobiographical poetry, she wrote mostly in English and Malayalam. Here are a few points that we can learn from her writing style.

#1 Storytelling expression
Even though, most of her work was of autobiographical nature, the storytelling style of her poetry made readers connect with it. For instance, this is a stanza from her poem ‘Punishment in Kindergarten’ in which she describes a childhood experience.

Today the world is a little more my own.
No need to remember the pain
A blue-frocked woman caused, throwing
Words at me like pots and pans, to drain
That honey-coloured day of peace.
‘Why don't you join the others, what
A peculiar child you are!'
No need to remember the pain
A blue-frocked woman caused, throwing
Words at me like pots and pans, to drain
That honey-coloured day of peace.
‘Why don't you join the others, what
A peculiar child you are!'

#2 Freestyle Flow
Here’s a verse from her collection Summer in Calcutta. Notice how she is writing without any particular technique or rhyme scheme. In free verse. A major portion of her poetry was in free verse. And, with no particular poetic device or pattern.

Again, I am drunk
Yes, but on the gold
of suns, What noble
venom now flows through
my veins and fills my
mind with unhurried
laughter? My worries
doze. Wee bubbles ring
my glass, like a bride’s
nervous smile…
Yes, but on the gold
of suns, What noble
venom now flows through
my veins and fills my
mind with unhurried
laughter? My worries
doze. Wee bubbles ring
my glass, like a bride’s
nervous smile…

You lead me along a route
I have never known before

(She writes in her poem Tonight This Savage Rite)

#3 Metaphors & Imagery
Imagery is one of the most essential elements of poetry. Even though, it might not necessarily be related to pictures but pertaining to any sense including smell, touch, sound, taste or image. Poetess Kamala Das too, used lots of metaphors in her poetry; examples of which include Sun, sea, house, window glass, bangles, funeral fires, nature, human body etc.

One such example of her poem is Words. See how she compares the sounds of words with leaves in this verse.

All round me are words,
and words and words,
They grow on me like leaves, they never
Seem to stop their slow growing
From within... ~

FEARS👁️

Fears are the voices inside our head
which guide us about the
various possibilities we might
experience destruction, pain,
or loss in our upcoming life moments.
However, even the biggest of all fears
is but only a voice, and we are always
unattached to it. Anything can happen
to our body, and anything can happen
to our mind, but we are always unattached
and untouched to any kind of destruction.
But we must inquire this thing
with each and all of our fears,
with patience, dedication & focus.

VERSE🎨

It's okay
if you are the better
and I am the worse,
if you are the best
and I am your reverse,
if you are a beautiful blessing
and I am a dirty curse,
You and I,
both are unique verses,
and a verse after all,
is neither better or worse.
A verse,
no matter what kind,
is just a verse.
And I,
am just a unique verse!
